Prepare a CSV file to import your diocese, parishes, schools, and other groups into LEAD.

Steps to Create a CSV for Group Import

1. Download the Template:

   • Start by downloading the blank  to use as a base for your file. This can be opened in any spreadsheet program (e.g. Excel, Numbers, Google Sheets).

2. Fill the Template

   1. Review the Column Details and add your Groups to the CSV.

   2. Do not alter, add, or remove the headers from the Template.

   3. For your reference, we’ve created a filled as well.

3. Deliver a CSV to Fivable

   1. Regardless of the program you’ve used to edit the CSV, you should be able to export a CSV of the final version. This is preferable, but if necessary we can handle conversion from other formats.

Helpful Hints

• Any column that accepts True values can be left empty to signify False.

• Any parent Group must be listed before any child Groups in the CSV so we’re able to appropriately connect them as the import processes.

Column Details

• Group Name:

  • This is the name of the Group (e.g., "St. Mary’s Parish").

  • Required

• Group Type:

  • For a Group that does not represent a Place, you can specify a Group Type (e.g., "Classroom", "Youth Group").

  • Optional

  • Leave this field empty if "Is Place" is True.

• Is Place:

  • Indicates if the group represents a physical location (e.g., a church or office).

  • Optional

  • Leave this field empty if "Group Type" is specified.

• Place Location Name:

  • This is the name of the place's location (e.g., "St. John's Church").

  • Required if "Is Place" is True, otherwise leave this field empty.

• Place Location Type:

  • The type of location (e.g., "Church", "School").

  • Required if "Is Place" is True, otherwise leave this field empty.

• Location State:

  1. The state of the Location

  2. Required if “Is Place” is True, otherwise leave this field empty.

• Location City:

  1. The city of the Location

  2. Required if “Is Place” is True, otherwise leave this field empty.

• Location Zip:

  1. The Zip Code of the Location’s address

  2. Optional if “Is Place” is True, otherwise leave this field empty.

• Location Address 1:

  1. The first line of the Location’s address

  2. Optional if “Is Place” is True, otherwise leave this field empty.

• Location Address 2:

  1. The second line of the Location’s address

  2. Optional if “Is Place” is True, otherwise leave this field empty.

• Parent Group Name:

  • The name of the parent group if this group is a sub-group (e.g., a parish within a diocese).

  • Optional

  • If provided, the parent group must already exist in the system or be listed first in the CSV.

  • Parent Groups must have unique names for matching purposes on initial import.

• Auto-join Parent:

  • If True, Users will be automatically joined to the Parent when joining this Group.

  • Optional

  • Leave this field empty if there is no “Parent Group Name”

• Group Description:

  • A brief description of the group (e.g., "Youth activities and outreach ministry").

  • This field is optional.
